Frankel is the author of three books on sustainability.

His Out of the Labyrinth: Who We Are, How We Go Wrong and What We Can Do About It, was published in 2004 and was characterized by ecological economist Hazel Henderson as “destined to be a classic.”

The Art of Social Enterprise, written with Allen Bromberger, earned an Axxiom Business Book award in 2014.

Frankel’s In Earth’s Company: Business, Environment and the Challenge of Sustainability was published by New Society Publishers in 1998.
